Boarding will start at 15:30p.m from Antalya Celebi Marina or Kemer Marina. Boarding the gulet in Antalya Celebi Marina or Kemer Marina, we enjoy a ‘welcome aboard’ drink with our captain and crew. A short briefing from the captain ensures everyone is familiar with the yacht and what we will do during the week to come. On the first day, our boat will be anchored at Antalya or Kemer Marina for dinner and overnight stay.Antalya has been a residential area since the Palaeolithic times. The city was under the reign of Lidia in the 7th century B.C., of Persians in 456 B.C., and of Alexander the Great in 333 B.C. After the death of Alexander, during the reign of Bergama king Attalos, a new city called Attaleia was founded and was conquered by the Selcuks in 1207. The most important historical buildings to see in the city are; ‘Hadrian’s Gate’, ‘Castle Gate’, ‘Clock Tower’, ‘City-walls’, ‘Inner Castle’, ‘Broken Minaret’, Antalya Archaeology Museum and ‘Yivli Minare Mosque’ which is the landmark of the city.

Places of pilgrimage in the Turkish town of Demre

Some people believe that Santa Claus did not exist but truth is that old Father Christmas did in fact exist as a historic personality. He did not come from beyond the North Pole where Reindeers roam, but lived under the warm Lycian sun as Bishop of Myra. His church and ex-tomb continue to exist as places of pilgrimage in the Turkish town of Demre (known also as Kale, near Antalya).

Saint Nicholas was born in Patara, was elected bishop during Diocletian’s persecutions, and died in Myra around the year 350. This stories of his charitable acts took on legendary dimensions during the following centuries.

One of these stories concerned three boys who were hacked into pieces by a greedy butcher, who salted and pickled them for sale in his shop. Nicholas miraculously restored the boys to life. On another occasion, on hearing that the daughters of a poor Myran could not marry for lack of a dowry, Nicholas stole under the man’s window at night and left a bag of gold for each girl. This act earned him the reputation of secretly delivering gifts in the black of night.

INFORMATION ABOUT GOCEK

When you arrive in the center, you will see a long street called Turgut Ozal Street that offers many outlets for antique and modern carpets and textiles, gifts shops, restaurants etc. It is possible to find all your needs in this street. Famous supermarkets Tansas, Migros and Bim – have branches in Gocek town, in addition to many smaller family-run markets that a everything that you will need for either yacht provisioning or self-catering. While you are walking along the main street to the seafront, you will see smart, plain, quiet, restaurants, fish restaurants, cafes and pubs, all playing good international and local music. However, you should also walk inland a little to see the restaurants and bars hiding in wonderful green gardens, surrounded by colorful flowers. You will find the atmosphere dizzy with the flower aromas, your cocktail and the unusual high oxygen levels, which we know you don’t normally breathe. You can easily find a good restaurant for a local or international breakfast, lunch and dinner. Gocek mostly caters for yachtsmen and women; consequently there is very little nightlife in the town, apart from one or two very pleasant bars and a music/dance bar. As sailors generally wake early, sail during the day, and sleep early, the most active time in Gocek is between 19:00 and 22:00 hrs, during which time the many bars and restaurants are buzzing with clients. As is usual in most seaside towns there is a delightful esplanade along which you can see and be seen.
